What a very busy weekend! The hubby was away for work this week (and weekend) and the weather here has been extraordinarily warm and snowless. Therefore why not sign up for a snowshoe race right? Well that's what I did! Our local running store, Kinetic Running (kineticrunning.net) held the 5th annual Cock-a-doodle Shoe Snowshoe Race 5k and 10k. I have participated in this race for the past 3 years and have enjoyed it tremendously! Now I have to admit that 3 years ago when I first signed up I had no idea what I was in for. I showed up dressed in snow gear (not running gear) and my back country snow shoes. Wow was I surprised when I watched the other runners take off in their running clothes and specialized running snowshoes. Needless to say the following year I was dressed more appropriately and had secured a pair of running snowshoes to borrow. I even persuaded my running buddy to join me, and she had so much fun she returned this year too. This years race did not disappoint! The course was clearly marked and although most of the North Country is lacking snow the New Land Trust (newlandtrust.org) had just enough for the race. The course was fast and this years run felt much easier than in years past. Immediately following the race I attended my weekly yoga for runners class. The instructor also ran the race with us! By the end of class my legs were toast and my core was quaking... whew! What a day! Today I was extremely excited to receive an email from Nuun Hydration. I have been chosen to be 2017 Nuun Ambassador! So far this new year looks to be an extremely motivating one!
Well we have all survived the first week of January right? Although it has been busy I feel as though I am staying on track with my goals thus far, drink more water and stick with programs or challenges I choose. I managed to complete the Runners Love Yoga Backbend Challenge and *gulp* even posted pictures of it. This was a huge step for me, usually any pictures I post consist of candid snaps of my running shoes or inspiring outdoor pictures. I will admit that I did edit some of them to make myself a little more comfortable, but ultimately I finished the challenge right?! And on to another yoga challenge... Yoga with Adrienes 31 Day Yoga Revolution! I have completed day 1-7 and will partake in day 8 this evening. I have to admit that I am extremely grateful for the fact that today is a Yin Yoga or restorative day! If you haven't yet, check out the program at http://yogawithadriene.com/revolution-31-days-of-yoga/ In addition to the YWA Revolution I was able to complete 4 miles this morning with the running group that meets at our local running store. Although it was literally 0 degrees out we had a good turn out (the usuals) and I managed to not under or over dress. My running buddy was patient and slowed down her long run (she's training for a half marathon in early spring) so I could join her. What's the coldest weather you have run in? I can't say today was the coldest I have ever run in, but it is the coldest in recent memory! After completing the run I showered quickly and zipped over to the yoga studio for yoga class designed specifically for runners! After an amazing class (in which I was able to hold eight angle pose for the first time!) I was done for the day! The yogi that teaches the class is wonderful and she recently invited me to join her Ragnar team! I am both extremely excited and nervous. Ragnar advice anyone?!?! Next up: -The Cock-Doodle-Shoe Snowshoe race on the 15th http://www.cockadoodleshoe.com/ - Ragnar training for the Cape Cod Ragnar in May So here it goes... a way to share and catalog adventures, accomplishments, and experiences. And why not begin on New Years Day right? Well, that is how I plan on "getting back into the swing of things".
Today I completed a 10K run just for fun. It wasn't a race but I was extremely happy to see about 30 runners show up to an informal group run that has been occurring for years. I met my usual (and best!) running buddy and after warning her about how slow my run would be, we were off. After not running for a month I was concerned about whether I would even be able to finish but a good friends conversation was just the thing I needed to make it to the end (and much more easily than I thought!). And as an added incentive to complete the run I signed up for the Ragnar Month of Training #RagnarTraining. The goal is to complete some form of exercise every day for a month. For more info check out: http://woobox.com/4q8bhh I also began a few yoga challenges. The first being a backbend 7 day challenge from Runners Love Yoga. You can check it out here: http://instagram.com/runnersloveyoga There is also going to be another challenge announced later this month too! The second is a 31 day challenge called Yoga Revolution from Yoga with Adrienne. http://revolution.yogawithadriene.com/ I have completed two other yoga 30 day challenges from Adrienne and I can say....they are awesome! Each day consists of a video to follow on YouTube (20-30minutes). There is also a printable calendar to keep track of progress. Each morning you receive an email from Adrienne detailing the goal of that days practice, both physically and spiritually. So on that note... Happy New Year and Namaste! |
